Sassari
Sassari lies in north-western Sardinia, between the hills of Nurra and Anglona. Its historic centre is a maze of narrow streets, squares and old palaces, with landmarks such as Piazza d’Italia, the Cathedral of San Nicola and the Rosello Fountain. A lively university city, it celebrates traditions including the Cavalcata Sarda and the Descent of the Candelieri. Nearby are Platamona beach and the coast of the Gulf of Asinara, with pine woods, lagoons and long stretches of sand.
