Carloforte
Carloforte is the main town on San Pietro island, off Sardinia’s south-western coast. It retains a Tabarchino identity shaped by a community of Ligurian origin that once lived on the Tunisian island of Tabarka. The waterfront, colourful houses and narrow streets reflect a strong maritime heritage. Tuna fishing has influenced local history and cooking, while beyond the town the landscape alternates between salt pans, beaches and rocky cliffs.
